Should I trust a reseller who emails me to tell me their bank account has changed?

I received an email from a UK leading IT reseller stating they have changed bank account details (the email contains their new bank details and that any new orders be made payable to that account). There’s been no follow up call, nothing on the resellers website to confirm or support this.

If I were the reseller (or working for security / fraud team), I’d take issue with this. What’s stopping a fraudster from editing the email to include their own bank details instead and forwarding it on?

This is assuming the email is legit. I’m also reluctant to forward this on to my accounts department without first confirming the email’s legitimacy with the reseller.

I’d like to say something to the reseller, but I don’t know if I’m making this out to be more serious than it really is.

Are you making it more serious than it is? Who knows? But better safe than sorry, as is said. That really is the only answer: if you suspect something is a scam (or similar) then you should treat it as such until you know otherwise.
