Could my EchoIife hg520c modem have been hacked remotely?

This morning i was trying to use my online banking when I realized the website was asking more things than usual which was suspicious.

Upon further review I realized that my DNS settings were hijacked to another DNS server which resolved to a fake site.

Is it possible that the router suffered a remote attack?

It sounds likely from your description. Discovering that the DNS changed was a good spot. No doubt you have now changed your (super-strong) admin and other router/modem passwords and ensured the router firmware is up to date. Flashing the firmware to a new version would be a wise precaution. Back-doors and hacks on Huawei kit is not an uncommon discussion on forums, so perhaps if you feel vulnerable, a change in router vendor may be worth consideration.
